First meeting notes of semester!
Hi new and veteran WSACers! Welcome to wsac, new ones, and welcome back to
all others. Meetings this semester are Mondays at 3:30pm. Here's how
yesterday's meeting went down:
-Film screening evaluation: "4 Months, 3 Weeks&2Days" was well liked. Peeps
want a bigger screen though. We will look into this.
-Next Global Women film: "La Boda" on 9/30 6pm in Coffman 202. Afaf and
Amanda volunteered to make the flyer for this--can anyone help
distribute/promote?
-In order to keep Coffman 202 a wsac space, we have to make sure to keep it
open and staffed all year from 10-6 daily. This means wsac members need to
volunteer a few hours a week just to be in the room. Many people signed up
for office hours yesterday--thank you, and please try to let me know if you
can't make it to office hours for any reason. We still need more people to
sign up--for instance, we need Friday afternoons filled. Stop by and help
out!
-Sex Ed for Everyone: we just finished filming episode 2: "Consent" last
night! Special thanks to Amanda, Sara and Adam for their mad thesbian
skillz. We will be premiering the film on Wed. 10/7 at Willey @7pm. There
will be free food and discussion to follow the short film. Sophie and Dez E
will be designing the flyers. Again, anyone able to distribute? Email
wsac@umn.edu to volunteer.
-Consolidated Flyers, our progressive zine, is still accepting submissions.
Email consolidatedflyers@gmail.com with your writings/drawings/rantings.
-Save Our School Campaign: wsac signed onto sds' SOS campaign to demand
economic justice at the U. All are invited to the campaign planning meeting
this Thurs. 9/24 @5;30pm in Coffman 202. Sophie and I are the official
sds/wsac liasons, but other wsacers should come to learn more and help to
shape wsac's role in the campaign. Also, Kira and I will be attending the
10/3 Economic Fight Back Conference in Chicago to learn from other economic
justice activists from all over the country. Let me know if you are
interested in joining us.
-check out wsac's new website: www.wsac-umn.org. Brook is willing to give
tutorials on how to use the website to any/everyone. let us know!
-Bufandas by Yolanda knitting group is meeting in wsac again this friday
9/25 at noon. All skill levels welcome.
-WSAC will be partnering with Black Motivated Women in a volunteer
opportunity at Feed My Starving Children in Eagan on 10/17 from 2-4pm. All
we have to do is package food and it goes to feed hungry tikes all over the
world. We have 6 volunteers and would like 9 more to match BMW. Email
wsac@umn.edu to volunteer! Carpool is in the works.
-WSAC is funding Sara, myself, and 3 UPCCers to go help out at the Red
River Women's Clinic tomorrow. The clinic will be beseiged by anti-choicers
as it is the first day of 40 Days of Life. In exchange for wsac funds (for
fuel), we will do a report-back for anyone who wants to come. Date TBD.
Whew, long one! TTFN!
