I came across this article today and thought I would share it with everyone. Thought it would be something good to read, especially since we are co-sponsoring the Hip Hop Conference.
Enjoy! http://genderacrossborders.com/2010/02/05/my-definition-hip-hop-feminism/

imna also recommend a showing (reshowing?) of 'Nobody Knows My Name' which is a film about women in hip hop that Rachel Raimist, recent gwss phd, created.
Rachel was at the U tonight interviewing Alexs Pate, Afro professor and author of Amistad, about his latest book In the Heart of the Beat: The Poetry of Rap. It seems pretty bomb, is available at Coffman, and has a list of hip hop songs with feminist and queer themes at the end and i would imagine a feminist analysis throughout.
